Dr. Roz will present a seminar for mental health professionals on sandtray & rituals in schools and mentl

April 20th has been deemed a National Day of Action in the US. It’s the 19th anniversary of the school shooting at Columbine High School and a day that many communities are planning events designed at keeping kids safer in schools. A number of us have put together a School Safety Summit with the help of play therapist Jen Taylor in Hawaii.

There are two tracks: one for mental health professionals, and one for parents and teachers (the mental health track also incorporates the talks from the ones for parents and teachers on bullying prevention and claming children in the classroom). I’ll be talking about using sandtray and rituals with groups after traumatic events. Its a politics free event focused entirely on how mental health professionals can respond to the needs of their communities.

Some of the experts on mental health and play therapy will be talking about:
1)Working with children with extreme rage that might be at risk for perpetrating gun violence;
2)Using play therapy groups in schools to promote
kindness; and
3)Interventions designed for communities dealing
with mass grief.
